Docks and Piers

Marine structures can require investigation or analysis in any number of areas. Loss, failure, deterioration and accident investigations call for expert opinions from investigators with deep knowledge of marine standards and codes.

Our multidisciplinary approach to marine investigation includes expertise in design, construction and maintenance of marine-related structures such as docks and piers. Our investigators’ body of knowledge includes particular expertise in Coast Guard regulations as published in the Code of Federal Regulations and Industry Standards published by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) as well as other national and international codes and standards. Our investigations often include mechanical, electrical, and structural evaluations of these structures and their support systems. Of particular interest is often the condition and grounding of electrical systems when fires and electrocutions happen or the determination of whether damage was caused by wind, waves, or flooding. Members of our team have had many years of training and experience in these areas.

In addition, our investigators and engineers are well known expert witnesses. We can provide expert opinions, written findings and courtroom testimony.
